Echeveria 'Olivia' will offer a dash of color to any container or xeriscape with its plump green leaves that feature scarlet tips whose depth of color only grows when exposed to bright light. Although 'Olivia' produces mature rosettes that are about 6 inches in diameter, the plant has a propensity to offset quickly and easily, so it forms a dense mat of clustered rosettes very quickly. To reach its most fantastic colors and avoid stretched rosettes, Echeveria 'Olivia,' like other Echeveria, needs lots of solid light. However, it can withstand a little more shadow than its more intensely colored relatives. You can protect your plant from problems like rot and pests by providing it with plenty of air, planting it in well-drained soil, and watering it thoroughly only when the soil has dried out completely; additionally, watering the soil surface directly, rather than pouring water into the rosette itself, is an effective strategy. You'll want to keep the frost off of 'Olivia's plump leaves in the winter, but come spring, those rosette-forming plants will burst forth with tall stalks of buttery yellow blooms!
